Adaptation of Problem Presentation and Feedback in an Intelligent Mathematics Tutor
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have developed an intelligent tutor for teaching remedial mathematics to community college students. This domain is fairly narrow in scope and is an important component of the college curriculum. The target audience often retains fragments of knowledge from previous courses which can aid them in learning; alternately, misconceptions can present conceptual stumbling blocks if students have misremembered what they learned previously. Thus, a system built with a strong student model can greatly beneet the teaching process. The tutor described in this paper tracks student skills along with a general acquisition factor, and uses this information for topic selection, problem generation, problem presentation, and dynamic feedback.

Automatic Generation of Analogous Problems to Help Resolving Misconceptions in an Intelligent Tutor System for Written Subtraction
In domains involving procedural skills such as mathematics or programming, students often are prone to misconceptions which result in erroneous solutions. We present the ASG algorithm for generation of analogous problems of written subtraction as an extension of an intelligent tutor system (ITS) proposed by Zinn (2014). The student module of this ITS does not rely on an error library but uses a...
متن کاملAn Intelligent Agent Tutor System for Detecting Arabic Children Handwriting Difficulty Based on Immediate Feedback
In this paper, an intelligent tutor application is built for Arabic preschool children called Arab Handwritten Children Educator (AHCE). AHCE allows Arab children to do practice at anytime and anywhere. As an intelligent tutor, the AHCE can automatically check the handwriting errors, such as stroke sequence errors, stroke direction error, stroke position error, and extra stroke errors. The AHCE...
متن کاملDesigning Intelligent Tutoring Systems: A Bayesian Approach
This paper proposes a model and an architecture for designing intelligent tutoring system using Bayesian Networks. The design model of an intelligent tutoring system is directed towards the separation between the domain knowledge and the tutor shell. The architecture is composed by a user model, a knowledge base, an adaptation module, a pedagogical module and a presentation module. Bayesian Net...
متن کاملSensors Model Student Self Concept in the Classroom
In this paper we explore findings from three experiments that use minimally invasive sensors with a web based geometry tutor to create a user model. Minimally invasive sensor technology is mature enough to equip classrooms of up to 25 students with four sensors at the same time while using a computer based intelligent tutoring system. The sensors, which are on each student’s chair, mouse, monit...
متن کاملTo Tutor the Tutor: Adaptive Domain Support for Peer Tutoring
The effectiveness of intelligent tutoring systems at increasing learning might be improved if the systems were combined with collaborative activities that encouraged conceptual elaboration. We extended the Cognitive Tutor Algebra, an intelligent tutoring system for high-school mathematics, with a peer tutoring activity that was designed to encourage interaction, reflection, and accountability. ...
